About

Who am I? A nobody really, just a man trying to walk with humility before God, and one who struggles with it on a regular basis. I often think of myself as the chief of sinners, but Paul has dibs on that title, so perhaps I run a close second? As I mention in one of my posts, the war between the spirit and the flesh is real.

I am the husband of one wife and have no real understanding with regards to why the Lord God Almighty gave me such a gift. She has been walking through this journey of faith with me for the past 30 years. I would be a trainwreck without her. We have a gaggle of children, eight to be precise, and two grandchildren. No, we are not Roman, but I like to point out when asked, that the first command given to man in the bible is, “be fruitful and multiply.” Genesis 1:22. Usually followed with the question, “show me where He said stop.” I like to keep that joke going, it has wonderful and sad memories attached to it… and because I am a storyteller, I will tell the story:

Years ago, I lost a very dear cousin to MRSA, yes, I know, who would have thought that possible. We travelled north for her funeral; it was crazy hard. Her father is one of my favorite people on earth, served in Vietnam, continued on in service through the first gulf war, one of the most subtle and cutting senses of humor I have ever encountered, and I love that about him. On top of my sorrow, my heart was breaking for him. Don’t get me wrong, I felt the same for the rest of the family, but I know him well enough to know how much he was working to walk through that moment. I cannot imagine what it is like to lose a child, I don’t think I could manage it with the grace he has. Anyway, I have a tangent issue, we were at the church for the funeral, and I ran into some family I had not seen in a while. They were amazed I had become a follower of Christ, and that I had five children (well, at that time). I used my joke. My uncle was standing nearby. When I challenged the person I was speaking with to quote the command to stop, my uncle started laughing. If you cannot tell, I am grateful for that little moment.

Back to the storyteller part. I went to graduate school for visual narrative. I have worked in film, animation, game art, and photography. I have also taught the same at the college level for the past 23 years. I have found that God may have intended me to be a teacher. I am an elder at my church, and the youth leader.

None of that means a thing, only Christ, who bought and paid for me, for whom I am truly grateful.
